What is it? Black Carp is an invasive fish.
Where did it come from? It was brought to the United States from China to control snails in fish farms.
Cool Facts: Black Carp have dark fins and only eat molluscs like snails, clams and mussels.
Where is it found? They are found in the Mississippi River in the United States. So far, none have been found in Ontario.
What does it do? Black Carp eat snails and mussels that are important food for our native fish. If they get into Ontario they will cause great harm to the food web.
What can you do? Don’t dump live fish into Ontario lakes and rivers!
