What is it? Grass Carp is an invasive fish.
Where did it come from? It was brought to the United States from China to eat weeds in fish farms.
Cool Facts: Grass Carp have dark cross-edged scales and don’t have whiskers.
Where is it found? They are found in the Mississippi River in the United States. So far, none have been found in Ontario.
What does it do? Grass Carp eat aquatic plants that are important for our native fish to live in. If they get into Ontario they will cause great harm to the food web.
What can you do? Don’t dump live fish into Ontario lakes and rivers!
