What is it? Silver Carp is an invasive fish.
Where did it come from? It was brought to the United States from China to use in fish farms.
Cool Facts: Silver carp can jump up to 3 metres into the air when excited by the sound of a boat motor! They can eat up to 20% of their body weight per day!
Where is it found? They are found in the Mississippi River in the United States. So far, none have been found in Ontario.
What does it do? Silver Carp are like freshwater whales eating the native zooplankton that are important for our native fish. If they get into Ontario they will cause great harm to the food web. They are also a danger to boaters when they jump out of the water.
What can you do? Don’t dump live fish into Ontario lakes and rivers!
