Firewood

Diseases and insects that are deadly to trees and forests in Ontario can be transported on firewood. Did you know that exotic invasive insect pests such as the Asian Longhorned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer have been discovered in Ontario?

In Ontario, Microscopic tree diseases such as Dutch Elm Disease, Butternut Canker, Beech Bark Disease and Chestnut Blight are killing trees in urban areas and in the wild. These diseases can also be transported from one area to another on firewood.

Forest pests and diseases have the potential to devastate Ontario’s forests and wildlife. To prevent the spread of these insects and diseases it is very important that visitors to campgrounds purchase firewood within the park at wood yards operated by the park.
